Centre for Academic and Professional Support session on power dressing-Soft Skill Training First Year BA HEP

The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History in collaboration with CAPS organised a session on power dressing for first year HEP on 4th September 2021.The session was attended by 87 students and the session was handled by Divya Sharma.

At the very onset, power dressing had been defined for us. It was defined as the capacity to exert influence and making a mark of one’s identity in the crowd. The need for power dressing was then emphasized. Firstly, it helps break stereotypes, which is necessary given the research that 65% of women are not taken seriously by their subordinates. Secondly, it helps us again respect because power dressing screams authority. Colour psychology was then elaborated on. Blue stands as the colour of truth and wisdom. Brown stands for stability. Black conveys seriousness and it was told that when in doubt, go for black. For men, 5 tips were given, them being: know your power suit, find the right tie, no pocket squares, choose the right briefcase, and go for formal shoes. For women, these were the tips given: be groomed, find a proper fit, don’t show too much skin, go for the right accessories, and find shoes that are comfortable and add height. Overall, the session was very engaging and productive.
